The idea of an Olympic Sailing Arena - the way Olympic Multihull Sailing can look?
The Olympic Sailing needs more media, more spectators, more ticket sales, more sponsors, more nations, more youth, more women’s, it’s should be more CO2 friendly and it must cost less than before for the sailors and MNAs.
We can answer all this needs with one concept. We call it “The Olympic Sailing Arena”. It is an idea and a draft. But why not implemented it in all major Olympic Sailing Events. We tested it allready www.speedsailing.org
- Racecourse extremely close to public area (promenade/pier/Beach/inside Harbors/City).
- Sprint-Races. 10-15mins per Race. 2-3 laps.
- Starting exact on time/program. Very important for media and spectators.
- Sailing between 1 and 35 knots with flexible rig.
- Fleetrace Round Robin on 10-8 boats with a Grand Final at Prime Time.
- All course figurations allowed. Upwind or Reaching Starts. Just accelerate and go for speed!
- 20+ Races/Flights per Day. Nonstop sailing action for the audience.
- 10-8 supplied Multihulls. No own boat needed. Good for emerging countries.
- Sailors from all Nations can enter. Pay the fee, fly in and go sail racing.
- Perfect event format to fulfill the IOC wish for 5/5 women and men teams.
- Very small Race-Area. Complete overview for spectators and media.
- Extreme Compression of Race-Area creates action, spectacle and emotions.
- Races are commentated.
- 10+ Camera Positions. 4 cams onboard. 6+ cams from Ribs, Sit-In Marks, shore etc…
- Live Web TV via HD Webcams from high buildings, towers and cranes. No Helicopter needed.
- Max. 2 umpires for direct judging on water.
- Sit-In Racing Marks for Spectators, Media and Sponsors. Tribunes can be installed.
- Most CO2 friendly Sailing Event. No Coach boats needed. Coaches can instruct from shore.
- Most ecological Logistic Concept in sailing sports. 10 Boats in a 40 Foot Container.
- No individual boat transports/container-logistics needed. We can deliver the boats.
- Shopping/Merchandising, Party and Music around the Sailing Arena.
- Top price/performance ratio for Sponsors. Top Media Value. Thousands of Spectators.
- Great turnover for associated companies and partners. Extra income for event-management.
This means we need classes/boats, who are highly motivated to sail in such a Sailing Arena. Some do not like this risky style, so they can sail their classic style out in the bay. But Multihulls want to sail like this to get max audience/media value for their sponsors.
We need such a Sailing Arena with spectacular boat types to modernize Olympic Sailing. It is the perfect time to do it now.
We got the information that Rio want build a 10.000 seat Arena for Olympic Sailing. We think there is no better class than Multihulls who can deliver the action for the audience.
We, the Tornados, are discussing to use even bigger sail area to lift and fly the Multihulls earlier from 1 to 2 knots on to make it possible to race in any wind conditions. No more delay of starts. Media and spectators will love this.
Because our Sailing Arenas are close to the shore, they are often in the wind shadow. At least it must be an ultra light 20 Foot Multihull with great sailing area and flexible carbon rig to deliver the best action between 1 and 35 knots.
It’s time to re-think the whole Olympic Sailing. And it is also good for our sport in general to establish such new spectacular style of sailing. This way we get also more people connected to sailing.
The youth will love this action. After watching the sailing stunts, they want to do the same. At the Sailing Arena the sailing schools and clubs can grab up the next generation.
It is a win-win situation for all, who are involved and a big benefit for our Sport. Let’s sail in the Olympic Sailing Arena!
Best regards,
